Singapore’s famous shopping precinct of Orchard Road is home to a slew of hotels, but nothing comes close to its newest hospitality landmark – Pan Pacific Orchard, Singapore – which opened on 1 June.
For starters, the hotel’s architecture is anything but conventional. From afar, the hotel’s hollowed spaces first catch your eye, then you see its dramatic columns wrapped in greenery before spotting its seemingly gravity-defying L-shaped stacks.
The visually spectacular hotel is conceived by award-winning architectural firm WOHA who is renowned for its innovative and sustainable designs that merge buildings, landscapes and urban spaces into interconnected human-scaled environments.
Standing 23 storeys high and housing 347 rooms and suites, the hotel was designed to be a vertical green sanctuary to bring guests closer to nature and allow them to experience the city’s tropical environment in unique ways.
Nature is architecturally celebrated through the hotel’s four open-air terraced environments – Forest, Beach, Garden and Cloud – each offering a one-of-a-kind experience. The hotel also brims with 14,000sqm of foliage and water features, a high-ceiling open-air lobby and energy-saving features like rainwater collection, solar panel technology and a bio-digester system.
Here’s how you can get close to nature, soak up beach vibes, luxuriate in rooms with captivating views, savour the flavours of the world, have drinks in the clouds and more during your stay at the hotel.
Tropical plants, water features, Mediterranean-Peruvian flavours at Forest Terrace
Be greeted by lush greenery and soothing sounds of cascading waters as you enter the open-air lobby at the Forest Terrace. The sounds come from a cascading waterfall that is surrounded by a forest of tropical trees and shrubs below the lobby.
Leave the hustle and bustle of the city for a while and enjoy a cuppa at Pacific Breeze just above the water plaza. For a little mid-day splendour, the Wedgwood Afternoon Tea will hit the spot. Nibble on Lobster and Caviar sandwiches, Roast Beef Bruschetta, Calamansi Macarons, Mix Berries and Yoghurt Cake, Exotic Mango Choux, Scones and other delicate pastries served on Wedgwood’s gorgeous Wonderlust Waterlily teaware which is inspired by Amazonian flora and fauna. The afternoon tea can also be enjoyed in air-conditioned comfort at Mosella, the hotel’s all-day dining restaurant.
For lunch and dinner, Mosella, helmed by Spanish Executive Chef Pedro Samper, offers a tapestry of flavours from across the Mediterranean infused with a Peruvian flair. Tuck into Peruvian signatures such as Hokkaido Scallop Ceviche and Hamachi Tiradito; Josper grill specials like Lamb Chops and Txuleta; classic Mediterranean dishes like pan-seared Black Cod and grilled Octopus; and rounding off on a sweet note with Cacao, a medley of Manjari chocolate, hazelnuts and caramel; and Tarta de Queso, an ultra creamy burnt basque cheesecake which is a tribute to Chef Samper’s hometown of San Sebastian.
Relaxing beach vibes on the Beach Terrace
The hotel may not be near any beach but you can soak up breezy beach vibes at its Beach Terrace, an island escape in the sky, featuring an emerald lagoon pool surrounded by palm groves, a pool bar, sandy-toned floors, sandcastle walls, deck chairs and bean bags.
Located on the fifth floor, the Beach Terrace is only accessible to hotel guests, and also houses an indoor and outdoor gym, as well as the soon-to-open St. Gregory Spa. Rooms and suites occupy the 5th to 10th floors and sport timber panelling, sandy-toned finishing and pastel-coloured fabrics to imbue the beach experience with fun and playfulness.
For direct access to the pool from the room, check into one of the 10 Beach Club Lofts. These special split-level, pool-side rooms boast cosy mezzanine lounges and private patios with seating pods that are perfect for soaking up views of sparkling pools from the mirrored ceiling or indulging in a healthy dose of daydreaming!
For more roomier relaxation space, book the 68sqm Beach Club Suite which overlooks the pool. The suite has a living room, a pantry, an open-concept bathroom with bathtub and rain shower, plus a balcony with sofa, ottoman and coffee table.
In-room amenities include a 400-thread count cotton bedding, bath products by French fragrance house Diptyque, Nespresso coffee machines, and Swisspro hot and cold water filtration dispenser.
In every room and suite, there’s also a bottle of Singapore’s Orchard Gin, produced in small batches by the country’s first gin distillery Tanglin Gin exclusively for the hotel. The gin features botanicals inspired by the origins of Orchard Road, where nutmeg plantations once flourished, and the hotel’s welcoming scent. These botanicals include juniper, coriander seeds, Seville orange, oak chips, cassia, nutmeg and pandan. The gin is best served with tonic, a slice of grapefruit and bruised pandan leaf.
Manicured garden, Champagne, cocktails, oysters and club lounge privileges at Garden Terrace
The Garden Terrace on the 11th floor houses the Pacific Club Lounge, specialty Champagne and oyster bar Florette, and a central landscaped lawn flanked by cabanas, planter beds, seating squares and water gardens.
