4 Art & Cultural Experiences At Sofitel Singapore City Centre

875

Celebrate art and culture, and experience a touch of French flair during your staycation at the Sofitel Singapore City Centre.

Throughout the hotel, French elements that are inspired by the sublime geometry of a traditional jardin à la Francaise (French formal garden) are married stylishly with Singapore’s garden city heritage through rose gold accents and botanical plus floral motifs on furniture, walls, art pieces and even staff uniforms.

At the hotel’s arrival lobby, you’ll be greeted by Singapour Je T’aime, a captivating 9m-long art installation. Made up of 700 hand-blown glass crystals that resemble leaves, the shimmering chandelier was designed by Jana Ruzickova and created by Czech glass and lighting manufacturer Lasvit.

The centrepiece of the Arrival Lobby on Level 1 is the Singapour Je T’aime glass installation

The hotel’s 223 stylish rooms and suites, spread over levels seven to 20, feature a soothing earth palette with purple and yellow accents; plush Sofitel MyBeds; Samsung Smart TVs; Bose entertaiment systems; Handy phones that offer complimentary calls to 10 countries; Nespresso coffee machines and toiletries by Lanvin.

A staycation with a difference is the hotel’s Stories From Yesteryear Package (available till 31 March 2021). The staycation marries art and heritage by taking guests on a nostalgic tour of Singapore’s past.

Guests can connect with the artworks of famous local street artist Yip Yew Chong at an exclusive art exhibition at the hotel, explore Yip’s murals in and around the hotel, savour a Peranakan-inspired meal at Racines plus enjoy Peranakan-themed cocktails and  tapas at 1864.

Catch Yip at the exhibition every Sunday from 2pm to 5pm this month.

Panoramic yet intricate, the scenes in Yip’s paintings provide a visual history of Singapore including major cultural festivals and traditions such as the Mid-Autumn Festival, Hari Raya Haji, Chingay procession and the Hungry Ghost Festival. Yip grew up in Chinatown and now resides in Tanjong Pagar, so his intimate knowledge of the area’s legends and stories evokes a sense of travelling back through history.

• Social Media Contest

Set off on an adventure using Yip’s specially hand-drawn walking map (provided to guests at check-in) and discover his murals that are just a short walk away from the hotel. Some of his murals are at the nearby Everton Park while others are in Chinatown.

Take at least three photos of the murals and upload them onto your Instagram account (remember to set your profile to public) and add in the hashtags #sofitelsingaporecitycentre and #ssccxyipyewchong.

Three lucky winners will be selected at the end of the exhibition period on 31 March 2021 to win an afternoon tea experience at 1864 for two persons.
